The Grey Town

{ Lyrics }

It’s good to see newcomers
Enjoy our endless summers
Albeit damp and dark and gray
Here nothing ever changes
It’s been the same for ages
We hope you all enjoy your stay
No need for reservations
If you desire accommodations
Just dream them up: they’re yours for free
Feel free to settle near here
But we doubt you will, ’cause we’re here
We suspect you’ll want your privacy

If you open your eyes, you’ll see it’s heaven

Sure, it’s always raining
And everyone’s complaining
But some you win, and some you lose
If you ever need a handful
Of something insubstantial
You can have anything you choose
It’s not that wounds are healing
It’s more that we’ve stopped feeling
’Cause pain and pleasure we’ve outgrown
No need to fear disasters
In a town where nothing matters
So come and make yourself at home

If you open your eyes, you’ll see it’s heaven

If your neighbor has abused you
It’s not something to get used to
Go to the center of the city
Take it to the complaint committee
If they like the way it sounds, you’ll
Get referred to the higher council
First, have a chat with the chief official
(An imposing individual)
And if it’s enough you’ve paid her
You will hear back six weeks later
Their decision will take affect when
They complete the triannual inspection
But if you want to skip that process,
Let it go, and cut your losses
The solution’s rather simple:
Move to where there’s no more people

If you open your eyes, you’ll see it’s heaven

Great starting song. It’s got a deceptively bouncy beat, but there’s just enough repetitiveness in the melody to convey the bureaucratic weariness that permeates The Grey Town. It really captures the feel of that limitless and dreary place, where you can have anything you want – except JOY. Well Done.

I like this song. This is well done. I can hear every word clearly. The music is arranged and produced flawlessly. I can listen to this song over and over again. I ordered the CD.
